Pre-recorded Presentation Instructions

Pre-recorded Presentation Instructions

We are pleased to offer presenters the option to submit a pre-recorded presentation for the conference. This can be a helpful way to ensure smooth delivery and avoid any potential technical issues on the day.

Recording your presentation

You can use tools such as Zoom or Microsoft Teams to record your presentation. Simply start a meeting, share your screen (slides), and record your talk as you would present it live.

Please ensure:

  • Your presentation is no longer than 20 minutes
  • If you plan to attend live for Q&A, please limit your recording to 15 minutes
  • You speak clearly and at a steady pace
  • Slides are clearly visible and readable

Video and audio quality

To improve the quality of your recording:

  • Use a quiet environment with minimal background noise
  • Use a good microphone if available (even a headset can improve clarity significantly)
  • Ensure good lighting, ideally with light facing you rather than behind you
  • Position your camera so that your head and shoulders are visible, with your face in the upper half of the frame
  • Look at the camera when speaking, where possible

Presentation format tips

  • Begin with a brief introduction (name, affiliation, title of presentation)
  • Keep slides clear and not overly dense
  • Avoid reading directly from slides
  • Consider adding brief pauses between sections to improve clarity

File submission

Once your recording is complete:

  • Upload your video file to Google Drive, OneDrive, Dropbox, or a similar service
  • Share the download link with us at socialcapital2026@hw.ac.uk

If you would prefer, we can provide access to a shared folder—please let us know.

Deadline

Please submit your recording by the end of the day Monday, March 23, 2026.

How to Record Your Presentation

Option 1: Recording with Zoom

Zoom is a simple and reliable option for recording your presentation.

Step-by-step instructions:

  1. Open Zoom and click “New Meeting”
  2. Once the meeting starts, click “Share Screen”
  3. Select your presentation (e.g., PowerPoint or Keynote) and click “Share”
  4. Turn on your camera and ensure you are not muted
  5. Click “Record” (usually at the bottom of the screen)
  6. Choose “Record on this computer”
  7. Deliver your presentation as you would in a live session
  8. When finished, click “Stop Recording” and then “End Meeting”
  9. Zoom will automatically convert the recording to a video file (MP4)
  10. Locate your file (Zoom will show you where it is saved)

Tips for Zoom:

  • Use “Speaker View” depending on your preference
  • You can resize or reposition your video so it doesn’t block key slide content
  • Do a short test recording first to check audio and screen sharing

Microsoft Teams is another easy option, especially if you already use it regularly.

  1. Open Microsoft Teams
  2. Go to Calendar and click “Meet now” (top right), or start a new meeting
  3. Join the meeting

  11. End the meeting

Accessing your recording:

  • The recording will be saved automatically (usually to OneDrive or SharePoint)
  • You can download the video file (MP4) from there

Tips for Teams:

  • Make sure notifications are turned off to avoid interruptions
  • Check your microphone settings before starting
  • Do a short test recording to confirm everything works correctly
